At our farm Porto Bello, when you come onto the property, if you were to look to your left side you would spot a red barn standing alone. It stands apart from the groupings of other barns that you would see as you traveled down the dirt road. I have always had a soft spot for the red barn that stood by itself. I even used a picture of the lone red barn for the jacket of my book because I have always thought that lone barn was a lot like me. The red barn that stands alone in the field, away from the group of barns is how a lot of people would sometimes like to be if they could. I think a lot of people would like to be just alone in a field by themselves, free to think and take in the world. The barn itself may be old, but it has seen a lot of changes. It has weathered a lot. Since it stands alone apart from the others, I like to think that it has a different view of the surrounding fields and of life. Like the red barn, sometimes when you stand strong and apart from the group, you find you have a different and unique view on how to take in the rolling fields of life.
