2018 was a busy year for me both professionally and personally. NCLD moved their offices from NYC down to my neck of the woods in Washington, D.C. In November, I helped people with disabilities get out the vote and found an issue I am passionate about. My stepdaughter Khloe got a 100 on her first assessment in grade school which goes to show that reading a book to a child every night can really help. It’s been a great year that ended with a great big surprise.
This past December, I was on an errand about town with Fabiola and we suddenly got a call from our house keeper stating, “There’s a big problem.” We had no idea what she was going to say and we expected it to be bad news. She let us know that when she had gone downstairs to get the newspaper that morning, she opened the door to find a small black puppy in a cage with a blanket and some food in a small Tupperware box. While we were both excited at first, we didn’t know if we should keep the puppy or not. We didn’t want to call animal control services and have her taken away to an uncertain future. So after some thinking, we let our dog Teddy see how he would be with her.
We decided to keep her and we named her Luna. Khloe had been asking for a girl dog for about a year, so the timing with Christmas really worked out. After getting her shots, Luna is adjusting to life in our household with flying colors. She’s a little bit of a pig, but who can blame her after being left for hours in a cage? Fab, Khloe and I love our new addition to the family and Luna already follows me around everywhere.
May your 2019 be full of new beginnings and unexpected adventures!
