Writing my first blog of 2016, it occurs to me that blogs describing the new year can start to feel the same. Treating people with more respect and kindness are of course something that needs reminding of every year. Yet the same reminders can also make many blogs I read, including my own, start to feel repetitive and losetheir message.
So when looking forward to the new year, I like resting on this simple and profound thought: What is the meaning of life? Is there a meaning, or are we here as products of evolution? I tend to side with a more philosophical definition of life: that seeing is believing and believing in the power of belief gives one meaning. To me, the word meaning means to matter and scientifically speaking, we are all made of matter. We quite literally matter and have meaning, no matter who we are or where we come from.
There are also a lot of problems in the world right now. We need to look at the root of our problems in order to change them. Everything has an origin, just like the matter that makes us up, and right now, it is a good time to reflect on what we have done. It's always hard and most people don't like to look back on failures and bad times, but it's something that we need to do in order to grow. History is one of our greatest teachers. Just because we may have failed at something in the past doesn't mean that we don't matter or that there is no meaning. We sometimes have to fail in order to become better people.
As always, I look forward to hearing about your failures, successes, and stories this year. Have a great 2016 and always remember, you matter.
