20 yr old with VCFS -
I have a 20yr old step son with VCFS and things have just got worse.
He has lived with his mother for a while so have not seen him much.
Now she has kicked him out to live with us and we are beside ourselves.
He keeps leaving jobs without telling us, spends all the time in his room, and now is too shy even to talk to relatives! he is shutting himself out of this world.
Has been threatening to kill people at work. there does not seem to be much help in NZ -
if we take him to the doctor will they commit him?!
there does not seem to be much help for VCFS kids that have turned in to adults??

Thank you for your question and welcome to FriendsOfQuinn.com.
I am sorry you are having such a difficult time right now.
I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice. I would suggest, however, that you take your stepson to the doctor. Making threats about killing others should not be taken lightly.
Since he was kicked out of his mother's house, he has possibly been having anger issues or behavioral issues for some time now.
VCFS is sometimes accompanied by mental illnesses, such as depression or bipolar disorder. A qualified mental health professional would be able to complete an evaluation to determine if other conditions are present and what the best way to treat your stepson would be. It is far better to get treatment than to continue to wonder and worry about his behaviors.
Please keep us informed on how he is doing.
