About Me

My most important job in the world is to parent my two boys. My youngest son was diagnosed with autism shortly before his fourth birthday and we have had to work very hard together to tackle his many learning challenges. My eldest son has also had to overcome obstacles to his learning including speech and language difficulties as well as dysgraphia. Prior to becoming a mom, I obtained my Master's degree in the field of Special Education. I worked for over a decade as a Developmental Therapist for adults who had multiple disabilities including mental retardation, mental illness, physical handicaps, and learning disabilities. Through my writing I hope to give back what I have learned from my experiences in my education, career and from helping my own children to deal with their particular learning challenges. I have also written the first chapter in a book entitled, Embracing Autism, which is a collection of parental stories of acceptance. Just want to end by saying that no matter what you are dealing with, please never give up hope.
